Our History
In 1989, a fellowship of believers began meeting in homes. This humble beginning established a tradition of fellowship worship which continues to this day. Since we remain a small church, members do not simply attend then leave without fellowshipping and sharing.
In 1991, we acquired a lease for the building near Walmart and across the highway from Rent-Alls. This was to be our first official church building and we enjoyed many services there while also serving as an outlet for the Hays County Food Bank. At this time, we called ourselves a mission church of First Baptist, San Marcos. When the lease ran out, we were homeless and wandering until we began meeting in the dining room at Woody's Barbecue on Hunter Road. When the property at the intersection of Highways 80 and 21 became available in 1993, as small as we were, we purchased the property that had been the site of Ingram Ready Mix. Then began a process of renovation and expansion of existing facilities. The work was mostly done by members, with the help of Texas Baptist Men. While our pastor likes to refer to our church building as homemade, like all things homemade, it carries the personal touch and the footprints of many dedicated Christian men and women.

In 1998 we incorporated as New Hope Baptist Church, the name voted on by the membership. To us, it carries the idea of a close-knit, sincere and loving fellowship dedicated to reverence for the Christian way of life and true concern for all who enter the doors. At the same time, we had a "hope" that worship really could be personal, study authentic, and songs be lifted from hymn books.

We are a traditional church. (Some would surely say old-time). Our Sunday morning service includes congregational singing accompanied by piano, followed by a sermon and an invitation. We embrace the rich heritage of the Baptist denomination and are members of the Bluebonnet Baptist Association, The Baptist General Convention of Texas, and Southern Baptist convention. We have gone through many changes in the last three decades, but God continues to bless us, small as we are.
